Seen here is the historical bridge that spans the muddy waters of the Yazoo River and connects downtown Greenwood, Mississippi and the surrounding area to the rest of the town. The bridge's unique design includes a "swivel" base near the center of the bridge that allows the bridge to turn into a position parallel with the river's banks. Once the bridge was in its parallel position, riverboats and barges laden with cotton were able to navigate the river. Amazingly, the "mechanical process" to "turn" the bridge was accomplished by manpower - several men, as the story goes.Source: Digital Photo Collection (2009) - Privately Held by Janice Tracy
